As exam season is in full swing, our commitment to safeguarding extends not only to the physical and emotional well-being of our students but also to ensuring a fair, equitable, and secure testing environment for everyone. Upholding academic integrity is a crucial aspect of safeguarding, protecting the hard work of all students and ensuring that their achievements are truly their own.
With centralized examinations underway, public schools across the UAE are implementing strict guidelines regarding electronic devices and conduct within exam halls. These measures are designed to eliminate distractions, prevent unfair advantages, and reduce the pressure associated with potential misconduct.
Key Safeguarding Measures in Exam Halls:
To ensure a level playing field and a secure testing environment, please be aware of the following strict prohibitions and rules:
Devices Strictly Prohibited: The following electronic devices are considered potential sources of cheating or distraction and are not permitted inside examination rooms under any circumstances:
- Mobile phones
- Tablets (e.g., iPads)
- MacBook laptops
- All types of headphones and earbuds
- Smartwatches
Why this ban is important for safeguarding: These devices can facilitate unauthorized communication, access to external information, or even cause significant distraction, leading to increased anxiety for honest students and potential unfairness in results.
Permitted Devices & Strict Usage Rules: Only official ministry-issued devices are allowed for exams, and their use is highly regulated:
- The official exam platform “Asas” must be installed.
- No social media applications or VPN software may be downloaded. (Devices are monitored.)
- Devices must be fully charged before arrival, and students should bring their personal chargers for emergencies.
Why these rules are important for safeguarding: This ensures that students are prepared technically, minimizes technical disruptions, and prevents any unauthorized access that could compromise exam integrity or student data.
Promoting a Fair and Orderly Testing Environment:
Beyond device restrictions, schools are also enforcing strict behavioural expectations to foster a fair and focused environment:
- No unauthorized applications or equipment: This means only pens and permitted calculators are allowed – sports bags are strictly prohibited in the exam room.
- No attempts at cheating: This includes any form of answer sharing, unauthorized movement, or non-verbal communication.
- Strict silence: Talking or sharing tools with peers is prohibited to maintain a quiet and focused atmosphere for all.
Why these behavioural guidelines are important for safeguarding: A quiet, orderly environment free from distractions or perceived unfairness reduces stress for students and allows them to concentrate on demonstrating their knowledge.
Surveillance and Monitoring:
To further ensure a secure and fair testing environment, all examination rooms are equipped with surveillance cameras. This measure reinforces the commitment to academic integrity and helps ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed without disruption.
Our commitment to safeguarding means protecting the integrity of our academic processes and ensuring a fair and stress-free environment for all our students. We wish all students the very best in their exams!
